(WND)—Two brothers got hungry during their recent six-hour standoff with police in Wyoming.
So they called DoorDash.
During the standoff.
And the driver arrived, but apparently police had procedural concerns about what amounted to an innocent bystander entering the field of fight in their negotiations with the brothers, and they apparently didn’t let him through.
The “only-in-Wyoming” scenario was documented by the Cowboy State Daily, which explained the brother allegedly were “drunk and uncooperative.”
Gillette Police Officer Eric Small wrote in his report, “a DoorDash delivery driver arrived to drop off food at the home.”
The report said the younger brother, age 23, had called DoorDash so officers contacted him through the app asking him to have everyone in the house exit. He declined.
It took another five hours for a search warrant to arrived so police could enter the house and make arrests.
The type of food wasn’t specified in the policy report.
To have a DoorDasher show up in the middle of police waiting out potentially armed suspects “is a new one on me,” said Frank Groth, a retired career law enforcement officer, in the report.
“What drunks will do has never ceased to impress me,” he added. “Drunks will do the darndest things.”
There are times when those in a standoff will tell police to deliver food, but arranging a commercial delivery apparently is a new thing.
Eventually arrested were Michael Pirelli, 38, and Joseph Pirelli, 23.
Charges for the elder brother included reckless endangerment for allegedly shooting at least 25 rounds from a .44-caliber handgun out the back door of his home, the report said.
The younger was cited for possession of a controlled substance.
Officers responded after six neighbors called 911 to report multiple gunshots.
Small’s report said, “Officers made contact with Michael by phone at roughly 01:48 hours. Michael was highly intoxicated and refused to exit the home.”
The report noted the brothers confirmed they were hanging out at the house earlier, then “went out to the bars and drank heavily,” police report.
They didn’t “recall much” about being at home later, police confirmed.
