President Donald Trump had his fair share of negotiations from the White House when it came time to raise the debt ceiling. Now, he’s encouraging Republicans in Congress to play the same type of hardball Democrats played with him.
As he noted in all-caps on Truth Social:
REPUBLICANS SHOULD NOT MAKE A DEAL ON THE DEBT CEILING UNLESS THEY GET EVERYTHING THEY WANT (Including the “kitchen sink”). THAT’S THE WAY THE DEMOCRATS HAVE ALWAYS DEALT WITH US. DO NOT FOLD!!!
While it’s definitely possible Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy and his Republican caucus won’t fold, it seems more likely they will. That’s what they tend to do in times like this.
