Eyewitness video captured the horrifying moment: Kirk clutching his neck before collapsing from his chair, blood staining his collar as panicked students scattered for cover. He was taken to a nearby hospital but succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival.
Investigators quickly zeroed in on the origin of the fatal round—a rooftop perch some 200 yards away atop the Losee Center building, overlooking the debate site. The shot came from a high-caliber weapon. By Thursday, the FBI had released grainy images of a black-clad “person of interest” spotted fleeing the scene, along with details of forensic clues left behind: a palm print, a footprint, and even an imprint from the shooter’s forearm pressed against a ledge.
