(Discern Report)—For nearly six weeks the nation has been held hostage by a politically engineered shutdown of the federal government—one driven by Senate Democrats under Chuck Schumer’s leadership intent on preserving power rather than serving the people. But now, even a liberal-leaning outlet like Axios is reporting that as many as 10 Democratic senators are prepared to break ranks and vote to reopen the government. That signals a turning point: the dam of Democrat unity is finally cracking.
According to Axios, sources inside the Senate say a bipartisan deal could surface as soon as Sunday night. After weeks of the White House stonewalling and Schumer’s hard-line tactics, pressure has mounted on Democrats representing swing or red-leaning states. Several are reportedly “ready to flip” in favor of a Republican-led plan crafted with input from President Trump’s economic team.
For weeks, Schumer has demanded that Democratic senators hold firm: no short-term funding extensions unless Republicans extend the bloated Obamacare subsidies. But the political calculus began to change. Voters are increasingly blaming Democrats.

The reported deal, according to an analysis from PJ Media, is far from done. It would end the shutdown with a promise on a vote to extend healthcare subsidies.
“The deal would include a December vote on a Democratic proposal to extend ACA tax credits for one year, multiple sources said. It would take 60 votes to pass,” Axios says. “It could also include some kind of language to help federal workers who have been laid off under the shutdown.”
Meanwhile, President Trump and the White House have doubled down on his call to end the filibuster by attaching voter ID to the demand.
