(The Daily Signal)—The Chinese Communist Party continues to terrorize Chinese American citizens in the United States by threatening their families abroad if they speak out against the regime, a survivor of China’s communist state told the Daily Signal.
Lily Tang Williams, the Republican nominee seeking to unseat Rep. Maggie Goodlander, D-N.H., told the Daily Signal she began to notice intimidation tactics after becoming politically involved in the United States in the final years of former President Barack Obama’s administration.
“Then, they, the Chinese government, began to threaten me,” Tang Williams, who fled the regime for the United States in 1988, said. “They want me to shut up, because, you know, I will badmouth my motherland.”
“For 11 years, I’ve been blacklisted by the CCP,” the candidate continued. “I don’t feel safe going to China to visit. I probably won’t get a visa because I’ve been an American citizen for 32 years now.”
Tang Williams, a former school board member, added that she has been able to get other survivors of the CCP on the record to speak out against the dangers of communism, but has not been successful in getting more to do so because they fear for their families’ safety.
“I encourage all immigrants to speak louder, but unfortunately, our country is so infiltrated by those countries, so some immigrants here, legally, whether they’re from Cambodia, Vietnam, or China, they’re still afraid,” Tang Williams added.
The candidate continued, adding that the biggest fear of immigrants who fled communist regimes is that the governments they chose to speak out against will retaliate against relatives and connections they might have in their countries of origin.
“They’re afraid something’s gonna happen to their family back home,” Tang Williams continued.
She pointed to her YouTube channel, Lily Tang Williams, which features a program called “The Immigrant Community,” in which she interviews immigrants from all over the world to tell their stories, praise the United States, and answer questions such as why they came here.
“After 22 immigrants, I ran out of people,” she said. “I couldn’t find more people who are willing. Some just tell me they are still afraid. They have family back home. They don’t want to speak up.”
“That’s the truth,” Tang Williams continued, adding that there is a “deep infiltration” of the CCP in the United States.
