(WND)—It apparently is the end of the line for a program that had a huge Christian adoption agency referring to LGBTQ duos.
The change is part of a larger move to “clarify and reinforce” its commitments to Christian beliefs.
That Bethany Christian Services agenda is requiring staff and board members to “personally agree and adhere to” a statement that includes the Apostles’ Creed, recognizes the authority of the Christian Bible, and affirms the image of God in every person.
Further, it says God’s design for marriage is “a covenant between one man and one woman.”
Officials confirmed that means a selection process for adoptive parents.
“Beginning June 2027, Bethany will only license and re-license foster families whose Christian faith and beliefs align with our Statement of Faith and Belief,” the statement said.
Senior leaders in the organization were told to agree to the statement by this month, with other staff given until June 1, 2027.
The organization explained the change reflects “a decision to reinforce our Christian identity by our Board and Executive Leadership following prayer and discernment.”
LGBTQ children or vulnerable LGBTQ-affirming families still apparently will be helped.
The faith-based nonprofit serves in more than 25 states and has 1,000 staff members.
It’s the latest about-face for organizations that during Joe Biden’s time in the White House had agreed to his leftist ideology, which included promoting LGBT ideologies at all times and all levels of government, even around the globe. He even insisted on the body mutilating “transgender” treatments for children.
The organization was founded in 1944, and also will continue working with churches to find foster families, according to a report at Christian Post.
The report said Bethany CEO Keith Cureton confirmed the move to reaffirm its Christian distinctives “is really about three things: it’s about clarity, it’s about conviction and it’s about faith and belief.”
Earlier, Cureton confirmed that the organization would be hiring only those Christians who align with its beliefs, and he barred them from promoting politics in the office.
“I had come to believe that we really had an identity crisis, and this was about the clarity around our sincerely held Christian beliefs and identity,” he said. “Because we believe, our leadership team and our board, that it’s essential to the long-term health and sustainability and impact of our mission.”
Families who cannot align with Christianity will be helped to transition to another agency, the organization confirmed.
Surveys have confirmed Christians are nearly twice as likely to have adopted and three times as likely to have fostered than those without religious faith.
