CNN Delays Anti-Trump Documentary After Gunman Attempts to Assassinate President

DCNF(The Daily Caller)—CNN postponed “The Imperial Presidency,” a documentary from host Fareed Zakaria, after Saturday night’s attempted assassination of President Donald Trump.

California teacher Cole Allen is expected to appear in court Monday afternoon to face charges of discharging a firearm while committing a violent crime and assaulting federal officers. Zakaria announced the program’s delay from its planned Sunday 9:00 p.m. ET airtime in an X post hours before it was set to run.

“[A]n update: My latest [CNN] documentary, ‘The Imperial Presidency,’ will air at a later date. We will keep you posted,” Zakaria wrote in the post.

In the documentary, Zakaria will examine “the steady expansion of presidential power in America – a decades-long evolution that predates Donald Trump – and explores how and why the presidency has grown far beyond what the nation’s founders envisioned,” according to its summary on DirecTV’s website.

Participants in multiple “No Kings” protests have claimed that Trump is exceeding his authority under the Constitution, citing Trump’s imposition of sweeping tariffs as one example. The Supreme Court declared Trump had exceeded his powers under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) in a 6-3 February ruling issued that struck down his use of the act to impose reciprocal levies on imported goods.

Allen’s relatives told law enforcement that the suspected gunman attended at least one of the anti-Trump “No Kings” demonstrations.

During one of these protests on Oct. 18, some participants made death threats against Trump and other prominent conservatives. Journalist Brandi Kruse posted a video of a protester at the Oct. 18 Seattle “No Kings” rally being interviewed while holding a sign that said, “Would You Like To Kill Nazis [With] Me?”

During the exchange, the man said that if he had the chance he would kill White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller, a Jewish man whom he called a “Nazi.” Kruse later reported that the FBI was investigating the man’s threats.

Kruse also posted a video showing another protester who said that killing Miler would be “justifiable.”

In a video posted by The Maine Wire during the October demonstrations, a “No Kings” protester said that for her birthday, she wanted to wake up and read Trump’s obituary.
