49ers’ Star Rookie Shot in Chest in Lawless San Fransicko

A first round draft pick for the San Francisco 49ers was shot Saturday afternoon during a robbery attempt. Rookie wide receiver Ricky Pearsall was in Union Square in downtown San Francisco when an altercation with the suspect occurred.

Mayor London Breed posted that the suspect had been arrested.

This afternoon, there was an attempted robbery in Union Square involving San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Ricky Pearsall and he was shot.

SFPD was on scene immediately and an arrest of the shooter was made.

My thoughts are with Ricky and his family at this time.

We will provide more updates, including on his condition, as I receive them.

NBC Bay Area reported that Pearsall is in stable condition.

Fellow 49ers receiver Deebo Samuel posted about his condition.

According to Sean Cunningham of Fox 40 in Sacramento, Pearsall was shot through the chest after he struggled with the suspect for the gun.

“Per SFPD: 49ers Ricky Pearsall was shot through the chest in a robbery attempt over a Rolex,” Cunningham wrote on X. “He was headed to a signing event on Geary & Market. There was a struggle for the gun. Both Ricky & the suspect were shot. Both parties stable at SF General Hospital.”

SFPD Director of Strategic Communications called that shooting “tragic” and unacceptable.”

This is a breaking story and will be updated with more information when available.
